Case Study: Building a Permanent Home for Third Coast Comedy Club | Nashville, TN
For nearly a decade, Third Coast Comedy Club has been a staple of Nashville's entertainment scene. Since opening in 2016, the club has built a loyal following while serving as a home for local comedians, improv performers, and comedy fans throughout Middle Tennessee. When owners Scott Field and Luke Watson learned their lease at Marathon Village would not be renewed, they faced an important challenge: finding a permanent home that would allow the club to continue growing.
After an 18-month search, they found the perfect location at 1307 Dickerson Pike in East Nashville. The former Good Wood Nashville building offers approximately 7,600 square feet—more than 50% larger than the club's previous 4,900-square-foot space—and provides the flexibility needed to expand its programming and better serve the community.
Beech Construction Services is proud to serve as the commercial general contractor for this $950,000 renovation. Our team is transforming the former industrial building into a modern entertainment venue designed to support comedy performances, hospitality, education, and community events.
The Scope of the Expansion
The new Dickerson Pike location will allow Third Coast Comedy Club to significantly expand both its performance space and guest experience. Working alongside MZA Architecture & Interiors, the project combines thoughtfully designed entertainment spaces with functional hospitality areas, creating a venue built to serve performers and audiences alike.
The comprehensive build-out includes:
Two Dedicated Theaters:
The new venue will feature two performance spaces, allowing multiple shows and events to take place at the same time. The main theater will seat approximately 110 guests, while a second, more intimate theater will accommodate around 50 guests. The additional stage creates more opportunities for established performers while continuing Third Coast's tradition of giving emerging comedians a place to develop their craft.
Enhanced Hospitality Experience:
Guests will be welcomed by a spacious central bar designed to serve as the heart of the venue. Comfortable seating areas throughout the space encourage visitors to gather before and after performances, creating an inviting atmosphere beyond the stage. The renovation also includes a full commercial kitchen, allowing the club to expand its food and beverage offerings.
Education and Production Facilities:
In addition to performance spaces, the new facility will include two classrooms for workshops and training, along with a dedicated podcast studio that supports Third Coast's educational programs and content creation.
Executing the Vision
Converting an industrial building into a modern entertainment venue requires more than cosmetic renovations. The project includes specialized theater acoustics, upgraded electrical systems for stage lighting, and extensive mechanical and plumbing improvements to support both a commercial kitchen and a high-capacity bar. Every element must work together to create a seamless experience for performers, staff, and guests.
Beech Construction Services is managing every phase of the renovation to ensure the finished space reflects the owners' vision while meeting the technical demands of a multi-purpose entertainment venue.
Project Manager, Larry Courtright, has been actively overseeing the project, coordinating daily operations and working closely with the project team to keep construction moving forward.
“Great being able to spend time with Third Coast Comedy Club working on their new location,” Courtright shared in a recent project update. “Beech Construction will be a great partner in their expansion.”
Community support has played an important role in the project's momentum, with a successful fundraising campaign helping close the remaining funding gap. As the Dickerson Pike corridor continues to grow, Third Coast Comedy Club is positioned to become another destination contributing to the neighborhood's continued revitalization.
Looking Ahead
Third Coast Comedy Club plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary this August in its new Dickerson Pike home, with construction scheduled for completion later this summer.
